Map your own world
Have kids draw a map of their bedroom, classroom or playground with a key and a compass rose. Then partners swap maps and try to find something using only the directions. Making a map teaches kids how maps work better than reading one.
Why it works: kids understand an idea best when they touch it, then draw it, then write it, the order the U.S. Department of Education recommends for elementary math.
