About this resource
Description
Simple machines make work easier, and many of the tools we use every day put two or more of them together. These simple and compound machines flash cards help 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students name everyday machines and tell whether each one is a simple machine or a compound machine built from several simple machines: the lever, the wheel and axle, the pulley, the inclined plane, the wedge and the screw.
Each of the 16 fold-over cards shows a colorful picture of a real machine on the front, such as a wheelbarrow, a pizza cutter, a flagpole or a tow truck. Students name the machine and decide if it is simple or compound, then open the card to check. Inside is the name, a colored simple or compound tag, and the simple machines it uses. Print the sheets one-sided, fold on the center line and cut on the dashed lines, and every card stays joined at the fold.

Why These Flash Cards Help Kids
