About this resource
Description
Simple machines are the six basic tools that make work easier: the lever, wheel and axle, pulley, inclined plane, wedge and screw. These simple machines flash cards help 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students learn each machine and then find it in objects they see every day, like a seesaw, a doorknob or a playground slide.
The set has two kinds of fold-over cards. Six Machine Cards show a clear diagram of each simple machine on the front, and open to the machine’s name and a short, kid-friendly definition. Twelve Example Cards show a picture of an everyday object on the front, and open to the object’s name and the simple machine it uses. Students can quiz themselves, play with a partner, or sort the Example Cards under the six Machine Cards. A 2nd grade practice worksheet gives six clue sentences, and students write the simple machine from a word box.
