How to teach Speaking and Listening
Using this SL.2.4 Common Core Activity , studentstell a story or recount an experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking audibly in coherent sentences.
Being able to describe people, places, and ideas is important for your students to be clear communicators. This activity will give your student practice to improve their communication skills.
Students choose narrative situations using facts and descriptive details to share that experience with the group.

If you are using this activity, your students are probably learning about describing people, places, and things while speaking.
Use this SL.2.4 Second Grade Common Core Lesson as an additional resource for your students.
Introduce this activity by telling your students a brief story with no details. Ask students to share ways that you could add to your story. Then, students choose narrative situations to tell about a time to the group. After students share their story, have the class give feedback by giving Glows (positive remarks) and Grows (ways to improve). If students choose, they can retell the story including the class’ feedback.
