This story elements network tree graphic organizer helps young readers pull a story apart into its most important pieces. Every story has characters, a setting and a plot, and a network tree shows how those parts branch out from one big idea. When children sort what they read into clear boxes, they understand the story better and can retell it with confidence.
Students choose a story, read it, and write its title at the top of the page. Then they fill in the tree. Under Characters, they name the main character and the other characters. Under Setting, they tell where and when the story happens. Under Plot, they write the problem and how it is solved. Because every child can use a different book, all answers will vary, so this organizer works with any picture book, chapter book or class read-aloud.
