Beginning sounds are the doorway into reading. Before a child can blend a whole word, she has to hear the very first sound in it and match that sound to the letter that spells it. This Beginning Sounds B, C, D Worksheet gives Kindergarten students focused practice with three of the most useful consonants in early phonics. B, C, and D show up at the front of hundreds of the words young readers meet first, and each one has a clean, reliable sound, which makes them the perfect place to build confidence. Children look at a picture, say its name out loud, listen for the sound at the front, and write the letter that makes it.
This kindergarten beginning sounds worksheet is a two-part, no-prep page you can hand to a small group, a center, or a single learner. Part A shows six friendly pictures – a cat, a dog, a bed, a cake, a bus, and a duck – each in its own card with a wide writing line underneath. Students name the picture, isolate the first sound, and print B, C, or D on the line. Part B finishes with two three-line handwriting guides so children trace and then form B b, C c, and D d on their own, tying the sound they just heard to the letter they write. Read the directions aloud once, model the first card together, and let them go.

Three things make this beginning sounds b, c, d worksheet work. First, it separates hearing from spelling: every prompt is a picture rather than printed text, so a child cannot guess from the letters on the page and has to genuinely listen. Second, it pairs the sound with the handwriting stroke in the same sitting, which is how letter-sound knowledge sticks – saying /b/ while forming a B is far stronger than doing either alone. Third, the six items are short enough to finish in one calm sitting, so a five-year-old ends the page feeling successful instead of worn out. The included answer key lets a parent, aide, or older sibling check the work in seconds.
Keep the practice going away from the page. Go on a sound hunt around the kitchen and collect three things that start with /b/, then do the same for /c/ and /d/. Sort a handful of small toys into three paper plates labeled B, C, and D. Say a word slowly, stretching the first sound, and let your child echo you before naming the letter. Sing an alphabet or letter song and pause right before the target letter so they supply it. At bedtime, ask what sound their own name starts with, then what sound the family pet’s name starts with. A few minutes of playful listening each day does more for early phonics than a long worksheet session ever will.
