About this resource
Description
Guided reading groups give young readers a chance to read together, talk about what they notice, and learn from each other. Nonfiction books are a great fit for group time because every page is packed with real facts to discuss. This group reading nonfiction worksheet helps 1st grade students organize that conversation and record what the group discovers.
Students write the title of the nonfiction book their group is reading, then fill in four boxes: who is in the group, what the topic is, what the group learned, and a new word they found in the text. Each box has three writing lines sized for first grade handwriting. Because every group reads a different book, all answers will vary, so the sheet works with any nonfiction title in your classroom library. Use this guided reading worksheet during small group reading, book clubs, or partner reading.

Why This Worksheet Helps Kids

Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Before reading, look at the cover and pictures together and predict the topic. After reading, give each child a turn to share one fact aloud before writing. Collect the new words on a class word wall, or ask students to draw a picture of the fact they learned on the back. At home, use the group reading nonfiction worksheet after reading a library book about animals, weather, or places with a sibling or parent.
