Description
A scaled bar graph asks a student to do two things at once: work out a total, and then understand that one square on the graph does not stand for one. The Memorial Day Graphing Worksheet builds both skills on a Memorial Day theme. Six lettered problems each count by twos, and every answer is graphed on a bar graph where each square stands for 2, so skip counting and graphing become the same act instead of two separate lessons.
This third grade bar graph worksheet has two parts. In Part A the student skip counts by twos to find six totals and writes each one in a printed answer box. In Part B those six totals are colored onto a scaled bar graph, and four questions ask the student to read the finished graph: which letter is greatest, how much greater one total is than another, which letter matches a word problem, and one written explanation of another student mistake. Print it, hand out crayons or colored pencils for the bars, and let students compare their finished graphs.

Use the Memorial Day Graphing Worksheet as a Memorial Day math center, a morning warm up, a homework page, or a quick check before a unit test on graphing. Ask students to predict which bar will be tallest before they color anything, then check the prediction against the finished graph. Partners can swap sheets and check each other bar by bar.
