The Student Led Beginning Sounds Test Practice Worksheet gives young readers a calm, familiar way to practice the very first skill of reading: hearing the sound a word starts with and matching it to the letter that spells it. Beginning sounds are where phonics begins. Before a child can blend a whole word, they have to isolate that first sound, hold it in their head, and connect it to a printed letter. This sheet asks for exactly that, one picture at a time, and it does it in the fill-in-the-bubble format students will meet on every reading assessment they take.
Six bright pictures fill the page, each one sitting in its own card with three lowercase letters underneath. The student looks at the picture, says its name out loud, listens for the very first sound, and fills in the bubble beside the letter that makes it. Because the picture names are everyday words a five-year-old already owns, nothing about the task depends on reading ability. The child works independently from start to finish, which is what makes this a true student led sheet, and the answer key on the second page lets a teacher or parent check all six items in seconds.
